After my small group discussion, here is what I'm thinking about my students' learning, and about my next steps ...
1.
I am excited to video my focal students and gain a deeper understanding
of their thinking. With my struggling student, it will allow me see
where the gaps are and what he isn’t understanding. Or, maybe he is
understanding the concept but I can’t tell through his drawings. With
my focal student K who is meeting all of my indicators, why is she
showing the work the way she does? I think this will give me a clearer
view into both their learning and my teaching and what I can do next to
get all of my students to meeting the indicators.
2.
I want to reduce my focal students to two or three students opposed to
four. This will make it easier to track and collect data.
3.
Make a list/poster of ways to represent numbers so that the idea of
using representational drawings and number sentences is explicit to all
of the students.
